Skolecite is a hydrated calcium aluminium silicate, which is a member of the zeolite family. It is a secondary crystal that forms in the cavities of basalt, granite and syenites. The mineral was first described in 1813. Skolecite forms in slender prismatic crystals and is also found abundantly in large masses. Its colour ranges from white, pink, purple, yellow and red to even colourless. Skolecite can be found in very rare crystalline forms in Iceland and a few parts of India, but it can be found in masses all over the world including the USA, Europe and Africa
