Product detailed description
Citrine is the name for a yellowish/orange variety of quartz that contains iron inclusions. It can be found crystallized in any form in which quartz is found. Its name is derived from the Greek word meaning κίτρο, which translates to lemon. Some of the most famous citrines in the world come from the Minas Geras region of Brazil, followed by Sri Lanka and India. Recently, beautiful specimens have been found in Madagascar. However, this crystal can be found virtually everywhere.
Natural citrine is a very rare and expensive stone, some specimens of which sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars. This has created a large market for counterfeits. Over 90% of the Citrines on the market are Burnt Amethysts. For example, the famous Citrine druses, which are shaped like Amethyst druses, are one of them. Our shop labels all heat treated Amethysts with the HTA (Heat Treated Amethyst) description. Another common form of forgery is also the exposure of a quartz sample to artificial radiation. This is how natural citrine is produced.
This particular piece is NOT natural citrine. It is a burnt Amethyst.
