Product detailed description
Chalcanthite (or blue rock) is a hydrated copper sulfate that crystallizes as stalactites, fibrous coatings, prisms, tables, microspheres, and masses. This crystal is formed in the dry caves of open mines as a result of oxidation of the copper minerals present. Chalcantite is highly brittle when exposed to moisture and is classified as a water-soluble mineral. Its colour is usually bright blue, but it can also be found in light blue, blue-green, sage and green.
Synthetic Chalcantite grown in the laboratory is almost perfect in its crystal form and colour spectrum. Natural pieces will always have imperfections and uneven growth due to their variable chemical structure and also their hardness (2.5 out of 10 on the Mohs scale).
