Chalcedony (properly Blue Lace Agate) is a microcrystalline silicate mineral and a member of the quartz family. The colour can range from light transparent blue to sky blue. The well-known blue chalcedony is practically an agate according to the mineralogical point of view. In English, this stone even bears the name Blue Lace Agate. The difference between Akhat and Chalcedon are these familiar "stripes". Agate has stripes, Chalcedony does not. The name "Chalcedon" for this stone is therefore rather a trade name used mainly in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany.
